Dr Atanu Kumar Jana

With over 40 years of clinical and academic experience, Dr. Atanu Kumar Jana is one of India’s most respected neonatologists and paediatricians. He has led major neonatal units including at CMC Vellore, pioneered child health programs in India and abroad, and authored over 150 research papers. As editor of the WHO manual “Managing Newborn Problems” (2004), he has shaped neonatal care globally. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Bengali, he continues to guide the next generation of doctors and improve neonatal care standards worldwide.

• MD (Paediatrics) – Punjab University, Chandigarh (1983)
• Fellowship in Neonatology – Westmead Children’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia

Awards & Achievements:

• The first specialist paediatric at District Hospital. Suri, Birbhum District, and organised a separate Children’s ward in a hospital with a grant from UNICEF (1987)
• Key role in organising the new Neonatology Department at CMC Vellore in 2000
• Played a crucial role in pioneering the new Neonatology Department at Belhoul Apollo Hospital, Dubai, in 2004
• Developed LRP (Learning Resource Package) in Newborn care training for doctors and health care workers in Afghanistan (Ministry of Health) 2006
• Organised training of doctors and nurses in five provinces of Afghanistan
